Welcome to New Homes Week 2025! At Homes in Somerset, we are dedicated to creating affordable, sustainable, and supportive living spaces that enhance the quality of life for our customers. This week, we are excited to highlight our key developments and the positive impact they are making in our communities.
Housing Development Manager, Duncan said: “Homes in Somerset are delighted to be celebrating New Homes Week.
“We have been busy over the past few years building homes for local people. We have stretched ourselves by regenerating some of our existing inefficient housing assets into attractive high quality thermally efficient modern homes. We have also branched out by working with the private sector to bring forward stalled housing sites by injecting critical investment which has unlocked development and brought forward much needed homes across a range of tenures.
“We have an exciting few years ahead of us with our commitment to ambitious plans to build a lot more homes of the highest quality over the next year or two. Our investment will build homes for local people who need help to access a decent home, at a price they can afford, within the communities they need to live in.”
Our journey began with the Bigwood & Staples site in the heart of Bridgwater. This development set the standard for our future projects, offering affordable and sustainable homes designed to support adults with learning disabilities and families. The success of Bigwood & Staples has paved the way for further transformative projects.
The Sydenham Garages project identified underused garage sites, including locations off Avalon Road, Saxon Green, and Chamberlin Avenue. These sites were transformed into fourteen highly efficient homes, demonstrating our commitment to maximizing space and providing quality housing.
In Nether Stowey, the Cricketers Farm development involved a £3 million contract with Strongvox Homes to provide 16 new affordable rental homes. This project is a testament to our dedication to creating accessible housing options for all.
Our latest endeavour, Penlea House, is a significant development on Rhode Lane, Bridgwater. This project, in collaboration with Classic Builders, will provide thirty social housing apartments, continuing our mission of building strong communities.
Funding from Homes in Somerset and Somerset Council allowed for the complete transformation of the Communal Hall at Chichester Close. This refurbished space now serves as a hub where the community can come together, fostering a sense of belonging and support.
